This rare Ford Mondeo ST220 estate could go *cheap*
One of the world’s rarest performance wagons – with a V6! – could be yours
When was the last time you saw a Ford Mondeo ST220? Scratch that, when was the last time you saw an ST220 estate? Exactly. For our younger readers, this is what Ford used to build before it started knocking out electric SUVs named after pony cars.
For those of an older vintage… yeah, we know, and yeah, it is. This one’s being listed on Collecting Cars, where the latest auction bid sits at just over £2k. Frankly, that is an absolute bargain for an estate car with a massive 3.0-litre V6 up front that hasn’t covered many miles at all.
Just 45,800 miles, in fact, across four different owners since 2006. It’s finished in Resale Silver (or ‘Machine Silver’ as Ford calls it), gets black leather Recaros, parking sensors, 18s, a stamped service book and – drum roll please – an actual CD player. Among other Noughties affectations, of course.
Great cars, these. That V6 is good for 223bhp and 210lb ft of torque, enough to drag that enormous body from 0-60mph in… somewhere in the seven-second range. Admittedly not the preserve of what you might call ‘fast’ today, but back in the early Noughties, it was plenty fast enough. And anyway, even mundane stuff is getting too quick these days.
Do your own diligence of course, but you don’t have to look far to find ST220 champions. Indeed, someone once remarked on its ‘brilliant’ steering and ‘spot on’ ride, and pointed out that in 2005, the ST220 was rarer than an Aston Martin DB9…
