Question of the Week

TG readers want Nissan to bring back the 240Z

And the Pulsar GTI-R, as suspected. Nissan, you know what to do

Published: 21 Mar 2025

Nissan’s in a bit of a pickle right now, but its newly appointed CEO has previously expressed interest in building an affordable sports car. Which one? We let you guys slug it out in our latest Question of the Week.

Jaykay said: “Beside the GT-R, the original 240Z. We’re talking about an affordable sports car. The 400Z at $53k is hardly affordable. Oh, and not available in the UK. But I’m slightly biased because I own a 240Z.”

Good start, and one which Mrzsbrz expanded on: “I’d also say the 240Z. High-revving, naturally-aspirated straight-six with 3.0 litres or fewer. It should have a 50-50 weight distribution and a manual gearbox too, plus a two-seat layout. Power north of 350bhp. Keep it within $30k, and I’ll change my name to Mrzs240z.”

Well, that’s… ambitious. Kid Carspotting’s next: “A nimble Nineties missile with a 3.0-litre Garrett twin-turbo V6, great styling and strong performance. Maybe the 300ZX?”

Now for some hot hatch love with Cwulso97: “Renault has smashed it out of the park with the new R5 Turbo, in my opinion. So I say the Sunny GTI-R. Its boxy arches would look cool as a restomod EV.”

Ian provided more support for this idea: “They should bring back the Pulsar GTI-R. Make it look retro with a modern interior and running gear, but the bonnet hump must stay. Also, ditch the UK name (Sunny).”

Our closing comment comes from Normalish, and we very much approve: “The Primera GT, obviously. In ‘90s BTCC livery, obviously.”
