How to launch an F1 car: here are TG readers' best suggestions
From collectables in cereal boxes to 30,000ft drops, you're a creative bunch, aren't you?
At the beginning of this week we asked what you would do to make F1 car launches more exciting, because the F1 75 Live event could’ve done with... a bit more of that.
The most popular comment came from erm... Jaykay: “I would humbly suggest taking a page out of Top Gear’s book. Paint a large target in the middle of a stadium and use an air cannon to launch the cars. The one closest to the bullseye wins. Conversely, force the teams to fit real wings and see who can reach the farthest distance. Sort of like very expensive pumpkin chunkin.”
Next up is Mishmash, who took the airborne theme to (literally) new heights: “I’d drop the cars from a plane at 30,000 feet. They’d have four parachutes, one in each corner, that would deploy once they hit a certain altitude. I’d then introduce the car to the guests as it touches the ground.”
And with talk of V10 engines potentially making a glorious return to F1, MJC had an idea to celebrate: “If we cast our minds back to old Top Gear, Renault showed us that a V10 engine is the perfect instrument when it played the national anthem. Let’s get a V10 orchestra representing every car on the grid, in their new liveries, playing The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.”
Meanwhile, Lucas Weidner said: “The slow tempo vocals should not be at an event where the whole purpose is to hype up the cars. As many are suggesting, a more dramatic entrance is necessary. Perhaps a small strip of track in the arena where the cars can rip right out, maybe with their respective drivers being taxied along? It would be a bit like Mansell and Senna at Silverstone. Oh, and lots of fireworks and explosions. Because why not?”
And how about one final comment that’s sure to stir some childhood memories? Donkey Dalek (great name) said: “I would provide free collectable model cars with every box of cereal.”
How very sweet.
