Porshe Cayman and Boxster news - Visually impaired - 2008

Published: 19 Nov 2008

Unless you’ve got a very beady eye, you won’t be able to tell the difference between the old Cayman and Boxster compared to Porsche's new ones, which is why we’ve chosen to just run the coolest picture of either new one here.

If you look closely you’ll see that there’s some daytime LED running lights - which all manufacturers are loving at the moment - so you’ll be able to spot one in the street. The Cayman also gets some LED rear lights too.

So far, so not-very-exciting.

But where the exciting stuff does begin is with the power. It’s been upped on both the Cayman and Boxster, with 265bhp or 255bhp respectively for the 2.9-litre, and 320bhp or 310bhp on the 3.4-litre.

Both cars now come with optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetribe – that’ll be a double clutch then – that helps the Cayman S do 0-62mph in in 4.9seconds with optional launch control, and the Boxster S shrinks its time to 5secs with the same help.

The Boxster also gets a limited slip diff if you so choose, but the Cayman doesn't as that would put it too close to 911 performance for those in Stuttgart to be happy with (although rumour has it that it would even be quicker than the 911).

The fuel consumption has been improved on both also, as has the emissions, so that's good news if you've got an eco-conscience.

Both go on sale from February next year, with prices topping out at £45,050 for the Cayman S or the Boxster S at £41,250.

We're big fans of the Cayman already, so with this power boost we're looking forward to getting our hands on one.
