Porsche reveals the Cayenne Turbo S

Published: 12 Oct 2012

Let's start a trend. The next time you see a Porsche Cayenne driver, treat him not with disrespect and disdain, but instead congratulate him. Inadvertently, he is helping fund glorious new extreme 911 variants.

And if he pulls up in one of these, give him a hearty slap on the back: meet the range topping, 550bhp Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.

Porsche has refined its dancing hippo to quite superlative extremes; it is, don't forget, actually really good at the driving thing. This Turbo S gets an uprated version of the standard Turbo's 4.8-litre twin turbocharged V8, producing that headline 550bhp and 553lb ft of torque. That's 50bhp and 37lb ft more than the Turbo.

And thus, it will accelerate quicker too. 0-62mph now takes just 4.5 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker) and with a 175mph vmax, it trumps the Turbo's top speed by two whole mph.

Underneath, there's air suspension, active damping, dynamic chassis control and torque vectoring with an electronically controlled rear diff, all fitted as standard. You even get the Sport Chrono pack too.

It's standard fare on the outside, but if you muster enough strength to look at it for long enough, you'll notice this Turbo S boasts air inlet grills, headlight housings and mirrors all finished in high-gloss black. There are also 21in ‘911 Turbo II' alloys.

It'll hit UK Porsche dealers from January 2013, with prices starting from £107,460. This also includes a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre - we've tried it, and you really should have a go. Just don't try it after lunch.
