Porsche 911 news - Porsche's most powerful 911 yet - 2006

Published: 14 Feb 2006

Porsche has revealed details of the most powerful 911 yet - the 480bhp 911 Turbo.

The new car will make its debut at the Geneva motor show later this month, alongside a new 911 GT3.

The new Turbo's 3.6-litre boxer engine offers a 60bhp power hike over the previous model's unit and is capable delivering 62mph in just 3.9 seconds with a manual gearbox.

Choose Porsche's Tiptronic auto 'box and that time shrinks to 3.7 seconds.

And it doesn't stop there - order the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo and you'll have a Sport button to play with, which will increase boost pressure for 10 seconds. Use it and you can reduce the 50-70mph acceleration time from 3.8 seconds to 3.5.

Top speed is a claimed 192mph and fuel economy (if it's high on your list of priorities in a £98,000 car) is 22mpg.

Once again, the Turbo uses four-wheel drive, while larger diameter brakes have been developed at both front and rear.

On the outside, the Turbo is set apart from the rest of the range by a re-profiled front end and a different rear spoiler.

The new car is due out in the UK on June 24 with prices starting at £97,840.
