Peugeot 3008 news - Peugeot 3008: costs some money - 2009
Peugeot has announced prices for its 3008 hatch-MPV-crossover-device, which goes on sale in the UK this November.
Prices start at £16,545, which is £3,050 more than the 308 hatch on which the 3008 is based. However, painstaking measurement reveals it to be a full nine centimetres longer, 14cm higher and eight centimetres wider than the 308, so you do get a whole lot more car for your cash.
It'll be launched with two petrol and three diesel engines. The ‘sporty' option will be the 150bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, which will hit 60mph in just under nine seconds, while the 150bhp HDI diesel looks likely to provide the best balance of performance and economy, hitting 60mph in just under 10 seconds and returning 60mpg.
Peugeot is lining the 3008 up against the Nissan Qashqai, VW Tiguan and Ford Focus C-Max, and reckons that, spec-for-spec, it undercuts the competition by as much as two grand.
Looks like it should be a worthy rival for the all-conquering Qashqai, then. With the excellent Skoda Yeti soon to arrive, the slightly-indefinable-crossover segment is hotting up nicely...
