One of the Nürburgring’s fastest drivers will now sort McLaren’s road cars
Indy 500 winner becomes McChiefTestDriver
A man who set a lap record around the Nürburgring in a road-modified McLaren P1 GTR has now been declared McChiefTestDriver for McLaren’s road car division. You will know him as Kenny Brack.
Brack takes over from former McLaren test driver Chris Goodwin – who has now moved to do Good Things at Aston Martin as part of the company’s ongoing renaissance – and will basically lead the dynamic development of McLaren’s road cars. All of McLaren’s road cars, not just the really, really fast ones.
But also the really, really fast ones. He’s already helped out on the McLaren 720S and McLaren Senna and it would take a very unique kind of individual to say they’re not really that great to drive. They’re actually quite brilliant, as we found out here and here.
Oh, and in the mad McLaren P1 LM – a road-legal GTR made by Lanzante – he set a Nürburgring time of 6m 43s and stormed up Goodwood’s hillclimb. And he once LITERALLY WRESTLED a Ford GT40 at the Goodwood Revival. Honestly, the man’s arms were so busy he’d put most interpretative dancers to shame.
“Kenny’s record as a formidable first-class racing driver – which includes winning an IndyCar Championship and the Indianopolis 500 – speaks for itself,” explains McLaren COO Dr Jens Ludmann, “but I believe his talents as a development driver are even more impressive and make him the ideal person to lead the team shaping the way that McLaren cars drive.”
So, there you go. Now’s a good excuse as any to waste some time watching Kenny’s on-board heroics, via the medium of VIDEO above.
