The 2017 World Car of the Year is… the Jaguar F-Pace
Jag’s new SUV takes the top spot. Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan the runners up
The Jaguar F-Pace has won the 2017 World Car of the Year award.
It was chosen from a list consisting of 23 entries, which were then whittled down to ten, and finally three: the runners up spots were taken by the Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Not only did the Jaguar F-Pace win the overall award, it also picked up the 2017 World Car Design of the Year trophy too.
Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover’s boss, said: “Winning these two awards endorses the talent and great work of our teams that have delivered the world’s most practical sports car and Jaguar’s fastest selling vehicle.”
When we first drove the F-Pace last year, TG's Jack Rix had this to say: “What the F-Pace smacks of is a company that’s studied the market, listened to its customers and delivered a product that people are screaming out for. It’s fast, but not backbreaking, tall enough to peer over traffic and just about tough enough to deal with some light excursions off-road.
“It’s spacious, too, and – something I haven’t mentioned yet, but perhaps the most important point of all – it looks fantastic. For me, it’s the best-looking SUV out there. If this doesn’t become Jaguar’s best-selling model ever, I’ll be stunned.”
On that last note, Dr Speth confirmed that the F-Pace has become the company’s fastest selling car.
Other winners in the awards ceremony included the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class picking up the 2017 World Luxury Car of the Year award, the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman winning the World Performance Car of the Year award, the Toyota Prius as the 2017 World Green Car, and the BMW i3 as the World Urban Car of the Year.
Previous winners of the World Car of the Year award include the Mazda MX-5 (2016), the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2015), the Audi A3 (2014), the VW Golf (2013), the VW Up (2012), the Nissan Leaf (2011), and the VW Polo (2010).
