Lights (out), camera, action! Brad Pitt’s F1 movie set for June 2025 release
Set your calendars: as yet untitled F1 blockbuster will hit IMAX theatres next year
This just in: Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton’s much talked about F1 movie is set for its big international release on 25 June 2025.
The film will star Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a washed up former F1 driver brought back to the grid by his friend (played by Javier Bardem) and team owner of APXGP, an entirely fictional 11th team that’s “never scored a point” in the sport. A bit like Andretti, amirite? Sorry, that was uncalled for.
Hayes is drafted in as teammate to young hotshot Joshua Pearce (portrayed by Damson Idris) and in Pitt’s own words, “hijinks ensues”. Other members of the cast include Kerry Condon, Tobiaz Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo.
The movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski - he of Top Gun: Maverick fame - with producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman - plus screenplay writer Ehren Kruge, all brought in from the Tom Cruise hit that grossed almost $1.5bn at the box office.
Hamilton’s company Dawn Apollo Films has also had input, with Lewis himself charged with making it as realistic as possible.
Filmed in collaboration with F1 on actual race weekends, production is set to continue at the British Grand Prix next month and several other races over the remainder of 2024.
Oh, and joy of joys, the film will be shown in IMAX theatres for the full, immersive experience.
This is gonna be good, right?
