Watch two mini Mustangs tussle in the wet

Don’t worry, your screen resolution isn’t drunk. Those really are two high-revving micro Mustangs scrambling around a waterlogged Symmons Plains Raceway as part of the Aussie Racing Cars Championship. Now, you may not have heard of Aussie Racing Cars, but relax and take notes as it’s both a hilarious and most excellent racing series. 

Aussie Racing cars are diddy motorbike-engined silhouette racers powered by 1.2-litre four-cylinder engines that rev to 11,500rpm, all fed through a five-speed sequential gearbox. Weighing just 450kg, they can reach 150mph and are probably the closest thing to driving an actual Micro Machine without the use of a Playstation controller. 

Best of all, as they’re silhouettes, you can clad the spaceframe chassis in whatever bodywork you like; Chevy Camaros, Holden Cruzes, Nissan Altimas and Hyundai Elantras are all popular, but nothing looks quite as bizarre as a pint-sized Mustang. Especially when they’re caught in a dogfight while hopelessly scrambling around for grip.

Well, that’s exactly the situation Jaie Robson and Blake Sciberras found themselves in during a race-long battle for the lead at Symmons Plains Raceway recently. As you can see, Mother Nature did her utmost to try and guide them both into the barriers, but thanks to some supreme car control, that wasn’t happening. Check it out for yourself above.
