Watch this race-prepped Mitsubishi pick-up drift

Clearly not wanting to be outdone by TG’s own Project Swarm, Mitsubishi has gone the other way in attempting to create the most hardcore version of its L200 pick-up truck.

Whilst we decided to make the ultimate pre-runner for off-road desert racing, Mitsubishi has taken its truck racing on tarmac in the Australian SuperUtes Series.

Now, if you haven’t heard of SuperUtes, it’s well worth a Google. Many lunch breaks can be spent watching crash compilations on YouTube – as is to be expected when you gather a bunch of tuned trucks and stick them on tracks built for sports cars.

To transform the L200 (or Triton as it’s known in Australia) for the track, Mitsubishi has upgraded the front suspension and completely modified the rear end with fully adjustable dampers and a competition spec diff. Have a look at the little video above to see the very slidey results.

There are also uprated camshafts, a bigger turbo and a bespoke exhaust system among other mechanical mods to the 2.4-litre diesel engine, with powerupped to around 340bhp. Torque stands at a much more impressive 499lb ft for the aggressively faced beast though, meaning it’ll hit 62mph from standstill in under 3.5 seconds.

To stop the thing there are Brembo brakes, and there’s a six-speed manual ‘box that presumably makes it a bit of a hoot to drive. 

The trio of Tritons racing in the 2019 SuperUtes campaign are all being driven by Australians, and the team recorded three third-place finishes on the first weekend of racing in Adelaide.
