Watch a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup monster the Pikes Peak hillclimb
Jeff Zwart’s amazing Porsche won the Time Attack 1 class at this year’s hill climb. Watch it in glorious 4K
Rhys Millen won the 2015 Pikes Peak Hill Climb in an astonishing 1,368bhp, all-electric prototype with a time of 9m 07.222s. His average speed? 79mph.
That’s right, this year’s fastest time was performed using batteries. But here is a video just a few notches down on the overall time sheet powered by good, hearty combustion power.
Jeff Zwart has just released this video of his attempt to max the Time Attack Class using a 911 GT3 Cup Turbo. The time he recorded was fourth fastest overall – 9m 46.243s – so it’s some way off Millen’s time.
But the sheer beauty of this video needs to be recognised. Filmed in 4K, it’s a startling realisation of just how mesmerising – and terrifying – the race to the clouds actually is.
Which, in turn, makes Sebastian’s Loeb’s outright PP record of 8m 13.8s in that gloriously unhinged 208 T16 even more exceptional. While you ponder on whether anyone will get close to Seb’s time, just sit back, and enjoy the vid.
