Video: onboard with seven McLaren GTRs and a P1 at Le Mans

Time to stop what you’re doing, and ride with a group of McLarens on a ‘victory lap’

Published: 31 Jul 2015

Stop what you’re doing, immediately. Especially that. McLaren has released a little video celebrating its 1995 Le Mans victory, and you must watch it.

You see, in 1995, McLaren entered five F1 GTRs at the famous 24hr endurance race – essentially F1 road cars dressed up to go racing – and ended up finishing 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th.

Quite an achievement, no? To celebrate 20 years since this victory, the company corralled together all the F1s that crossed the line – including the race-winning #59 F1 GTR here driven by McLaren test driver Colin Goodwin – together at La Sarthe, for a noisy parade.

And they weren’t alone. In attendance was Yannick Dalmas (one of the #59 GTR drivers) piloting a McLaren P1 GTR, JJ Lehto in the last ever F1 GTR ‘Longtail’, and Masanori Sekiya – the first Japanese driver to win at Le Mans – behind the wheel of a P1.

The racing F1 GTRs even crossed the line in formation, too. Yeah, stop what you’re doing, and watch.
