The dates have been set and the driver list is out: here’s why you should head to Goodwood in June

The 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from June 26 to 28, and while many of the cars and drivers present will be familiar to those who've been to Lord March's gaff before, there are plenty of goings-on to entice you toward's England's endlessly sunny south coast this year...
Fiat's S76 will be spitting flames
Right now the most interesting engine you'll find in a Fiat is 875cc in size and has just two cylinders. Rewind back to 1911 and the truth was somewhat different.
Meet the S76, a car with an engine more than 32 times bigger. It's 28.5 litres in size, produces 300bhp - a heck of a lot when a contemporary family cranked out just 20bhp - and spits flames with reckless abandon.
Last year we showed you this video of the engine starting for the first time in 100 years; fast forward a few months and its first public appearance in even longer has been confirmed for the summer. Excited?Advertisement - Page continues belowThe supercar record will tumble
Or rather it certainly should tumble. That's because taking to the hill in 2015 will be the McLaren P1 GTR, all 986bhp and much, much downforce of it.
Its spec sheet certainly nods to the possibility of felling the Nismo GT-R's record 49.27-second sprint up the Goodwood hillclimb; keeping expectation in check should be the question of how well it will work without proper heat in its tyres, the congestion-filled toing and froing prior to the FoS supercar run hardly the ideal preparation for a car designed to work at real extremes.
It won't be the only hypercar facing such battles, though...The Glickenhaus SCG-003 could top it
Also going up against the stopwatch will be this, the latest supercar from Jim Glickenhaus. The SCG-003 was first unveiled at the Geneva motor show, and comes in road and race flavours.
It drapes a rather lovely design by a former Pininfarina scribbler over a carbon monocoque chassis and a 600bhp twin-turbo V6 engine. It's had most of the TG office swooning already. Yep, Goodwood announced this week that the utterly crackpot Regera will be going up against the clock, all 1500bhp, single-speed, rear-drive madness of it.
The spec sheet suggests it will be like the proverbial off a stick - 0-250mph in less than 20 seconds may not be entirely relevant on a 1.16-mile hillclimb, but it gives some idea as to how devastatingly the Regera should build pace.

The traditional ‘lollipop' structure in front of Goodwood house has recently centred around the Porsche 911 and Lotus and Merc's F1 efforts. All very lovely, but a bit high-end, no?
Lovers of the real world, rejoice, as this year's central manufacturer (i.e. big sponsor) is Mazda, and therefore the humbly appealing Japanese brand will be providing the humongous art installation, too.
Other than its design matching Mazda's ‘KODO' philosophy, there's no word on what we'll be craning our necks to snap selfies in front of. But given its reinvention this year, we'd wager the sweet little MX-5 will be pointing skyward in one form or another.The 787B will be deafening everyone
Mazda couldn't possibly take central stage at the FoS without its greatest sounding - perhaps the greatest sounding - car. If you need a recap, the Wankel-engined 787B won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1991, with Jonny Herbert helping pilot it, somewhat screamingly, to victory. You can see it in action here.
If that isn't a tantalising teaser of the noise that will be bouncing round the Chichester area come June, we don't know what is.Valentino Rossi is making his debut
Hard to believe given his position at the very top of the motorbike racing tree (he's the self-proclaimed goat, i.e. greatest of all time, lest we forget), but Signor Rossi hasn't yet wheelied his way up Goodwood hill. Until now. Well, June.
He'll be atop his 2015 Yamaha, too, great news given he used it to open up this year's Moto GP season - Rossi's 16th in bike racing's top league - with a win in Qatar last weekend. Expect much Vale love.Advertisement - Page continues belowThere will be many Merc 300SLRs
Marking 60 years since his Mille Miglia win, Stirling Moss - a legend and icon with not a jot of overstatement possible - will be taking to Goodwood hill in his lovely old 300SLR racer.
But he won't be alone. As if swooning over one SLR wasn't enough, there will be seven of the things at the FoS. Expect copious abuse of Instagram's sepia filters when they're parked up together in the paddock.The Citroen DS will be getting 60 bumps
Expect lots of beautifully proportioned cake positioned at improbable, hydraulically assisted angles to mark the 60th birthday of Citroen's DS.
Aside from the 2CV, is there a more iconic or recognisable Citroen? Given that the current DS range so clearly trades off its success, we'd suggest not. Many of its quirky variants, including the Safari estate and the utterly glorious Cabriolet (pictured), should take to the Goodwood lawns. We're promised the biggest ever display of ‘Americana' at this year's Festival, with US motorsport - and NASCAR in particular - strongly represented.
Part of this will see Richard Petty, at the fine old age of 77, take to the hill in his 1970 Plymouth Superbird. A pleasure for fans of NASCAR and muscle cars, sure. But it's one to entertain all ages given how familiar it should be to anyone who's seen the Pixar flick Cars...
