Sebastien Loeb will add DTM driving to his repertoire this season

The WRC legend will cover for Nick Cassidy in the DTM season opener at Portimão

Rally legend and general talent hogger Sébastien Loeb will make his DTM debut this season as he prepares to drive for the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse team in the season opener at Portimão.

The nine-time WRC champ will drive a Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO 2020 as he fills in for Nick Cassidy, with the New Zealander missing the first race of the season later this month to compete in Formula E.

This’ll be the first time that Loeb has competed in DTM, with the series now heading into its second year of running GT3 cars. The Frenchman has plenty of circuit racing experience though, including a second place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2006 and third place finishes in the World Touring Car Championships of 2014 and 2015. What a guy.

“I will have to fight against specialists in these kinds of races and it’s a long time since my last real GT3 race,” said Loeb. “My goal will be to find my rhythm as best as possible and I will try to use my experience to give good feedback to the team about the settings of the car. I know it will be tough, but the cars are really fun to drive – really fast, nice cars – so I’m looking forward to it.”

Worth remembering that a 48-year-old Loeb already finished second in the Dakar Rally earlier this year, before winning the Monte Carlo Rally just a week later. He also took victory on ice at the Race of Champions in February, beating one Sebastian Vettel in the final.

Not a bad record so far, is it?
