For sale: Scalextric's biggest ever track

Quite possibly the finest Formula One track in the world that’s not a real track could be yours

Published: 11 Aug 2015

That’s former Le Mans 24hr winner, Formula One driver, and current F1 pundit Martin Brundle in the picture above. The track behind him? Only the biggest layout Scalextric have ever created.

It was designed by Brundle himself, and is set to be auctioned off at CarFest South at the end of the month. And it might just be the finest Formula One circuit that’s not a real Formula One circuit.

This is because it comprises all of Martin Brundle’s favourite things: corners from the best tracks on the grid. So you’ve got things like the ‘Ascari’ chicane from Monza, Monaco’s famous Casino Square, Canada’s ‘Wall of Champions’, the Silverstone ‘Copse’ section and Abu Dhabi’s Marina Complex.

The whole thing is made up from 177 pieces, features 44 corners and measures in at an incredible 45 metres long.

Says Brundle: “I immediately wanted a figure of ‘8’ just like our beloved Suzuka, and could only dream of driving a series of corners such as scaling the mountain up to turn one in Austin before falling through the ‘Senna S’ of Brazil towards Silverstone’s fearsome ‘Copse’ corner.

“That’s just a small section. Now, we’ve built a model and so I will revert to my childhood for many laps.” You’re not the only one, Martin.

Sky Sports F1 and Hornby are donating the track for sale, with 100 per cent of the proceeds from the auction going to Children in Need.

We suspect you are childishly excited. We are. It all kicks off on 28 August.
