Renault has revealed a new racing Clio to take… racing
No mechanical changes are mentioned, but the rally-inspired look certainly has us wooed
A hot version is customary for any diminutive French car, and the fifth-generation Renault Clio is the latest to be spruced up with many motorsport-inspired goodies to look… like a hot Clio. Though actual professionals have put this one together, not your local cowboy.
The changes include tiny rally car-like alloys and a comically large rear wing that looks like it belongs on an Airbus A380. A roof scoop is also thrown on for good measure, as is a vented bonnet with racing clips.
You’ll also spot a light refresh to each of the bumpers and the front grille. The black accenting also allows the amuse-bouche of vinyls from brands like Castrol and Michelin to pop. Sadly, there’s no British Airways logo across the rear wing.
It’s not all just for show either; Renault will enter several established Clio Cup competitions, including the Trophy French Asphalte and France Terre series. Perhaps a follow-up entrant for Le Mans is on the horizon, too?
Or maybe Renault could just stick a V6 between both axles and swell its wheel arches like it did once before. We can dream…
