This radio-controlled replica of Schumacher’s F2002 could be yours… for £200,000
It has a top speed of 50mph thanks to a pair of miniature four-cylinder engines, and has even been signed by the seven-time champ
Got between £150,000 and £200,000 to spare on a weekend toy, but don’t fancy an Aston Martin Vantage or Mercedes-AMG GT? How does a 1:3 scale, radio-controlled version of Michael Schumacher’s double championship-winning F2002 racer sound instead?
It’s the brainchild of Swiss businessman Stephane Andrist and took over 1,000 hours across three years to build. Talk about commitment. It’s now going up for sale at Graham Budd Auctions' F1 memorabilia sale, and the details are cool. Very cool.
Sadly there's no shrunken version of the V10 masterpiece which saw 11 victories under Schumi’s stewardship, but this little radio-controlled car does still get a pair of 53.5cc ‘F320’ four-pot engines from Pegasus. That means it's good for a 50mph top speed, which doesn’t at all sound like a recipe for disaster when let loose in the living room.
There’s more mechanical goodness too, by way of double wishbone suspension, mechanical shock absorbers and vented brake discs hidden underneath a set of go-kart tyres. The whole thing weighs 32kg.
Early birds can apparently place a pre-auction bid of at least £90,000 to try and test their luck, before the lot officially goes live tomorrow morning with an estimate of somewhere between £150,000 and £200,000. Yikes. Prepare thine skirting boards...
