Peugeot is readying a new hypercar for Le Mans

Huge news: Peugeot Sport has announced it will return to the FIA World Endurance Championship for the 2022/23 season, meaning it will once again compete at the Le Mans 24hrs.

Peugeot’s entry will be in the upcoming Hypercar class too, the regulations for which stipulate that 20 road-going versions of each car must be built across a two-year period for homologation purposes.

Yep, that means a road-legal hybrid Peugeot Sport hypercar is on the way. We’re already excited.

The class officially opens in the 2020/21 season, and Aston Martin, Toyota and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus have all already thrown their hats into the ring. It’s looking tasty. The new rules were designed to limit costs compared to the outgoing LMP1 class, and it’s certainly bringing back the manufacturers.

Peugeot last competed at Le Mans between 2007 and 2011, and the French manufacturer took top spot on the podium with its 908 HDi FAP diesel LMP1 car in 2009. Will it be as successful this time around? And what should we expect from the road-going hypercar?
