Michael Dunlop has won the Isle of Man TT a record 27 times

History has been rewritten in the frankly terrifying Isle of Man TT, as Northern Irishman Michael Dunlop has just claimed an unprecedented 27th win. In doing so, he surpasses the record previously held by his late uncle, Joey Dunlop, which stretches back to 2000. 

It was far from the easiest TT for Dunlop, though, with a faulty visor prematurely ending his first run out last weekend. Ultimately, that issue led him to surrender a massive 20-second lead, which would’ve seen him secure the new TT record several days earlier. 

But there was no doubting his determination for Wednesday’s event, for which he started on pole and held that position for the entirety of the three-lap race.

Still just 35 years of age, Dunlop has plenty of time to continue to extend his TT victory count, with John McGuinness (23), Dave Molyneux (17) and Ian Hutchinson (16) firmly behind him.
