LOOK AT THIS RED VOLKSWAGEN ID R

VW wants to set a new record in China with the ID R. But mostly, RED

Published: 09 Aug 2019

Look at it. It's RED. Volkswagen has announced it wants to set a new record with its blackout-inducing, mad ID R electric racecar. Oh, blackout-inducing you say? The ID R made our Motoring Editor Ollie Marriage literally black out for a few moments while driving it. True story.

Anyway, mostly it's now become quite RED. The record attempt will occur in China, hence the RED. See, in China, red denotes good luck and happiness. It's a surprise Ferrari didn't make it big over there years ago.

VW's going to run the ID R at the Tianmen Shan Big Gate Road - a terrifying ascent featuring 99 hairpins. With all that power and g-force available it'll likely be a different colour inside the cockpit, too.

Here's a quote from Volkswagen. "The pioneering ID R is the ambassador for our fully-electric ID family, which will be launched in China from 2020,” said Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein, the boss of Volkswagen in China. “I think we have come up with a spectacular livery for the ID R for its ‘China Challenge’ in September. The ID R’s records have allowed us at Volkswagen to demonstrate our passion for e-mobility and its potential in a diverse range of conditions. The ID R is the first member of the ID family to take to the roads of China.”

So, there's a marketing message there inside all the RED. But... doesn't it look fine in this new hue?
