Listen to Lewis Hamilton’s 2018 F1 car fire up

Mercedes-AMG release video of Lewis and Valtteri’s new F1 toy starting up

Published: 06 Feb 2018

AMG’s new Project One hypercar famously uses a 2015-spec Formula 1 engine… in something fit for the road. Should they build a ‘Project Two’, they’ve got a new base.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a (relatively) long video for a little burst of noise. But it's an important noise. It's the noise of Mercedes-AMG’s 2018 Formula 1 car starting up.

You’ll have to scoot to around the 30-second mark when, for around seven seconds, your ears will be treated to the 1.6-litre V6 firing up. AMG tell us it is the result of “a thousand man years in the making”. Basically, a ton of people worked on it.

Could this be the noise to dampen the mood over at Maranello? Or indeed, the entire grid? Mercedes-AMG are the reigning constructors’ champions. Lewis is the reigning (now four-time) world champ. The smart money’s on Merc doing it… again.

Have a listen and tell us if you think F1 is sounding good again. Entirely unrelated to your discussion on what makes a good noise, we completely randomly stumbled across this clip. Up to you whether you want to listen. It's your life, after all.
