Le Mans 2022: Brendon Hartley’s Toyota hypercar will start on pole

First blood goes to Toyota and the GR010 Hybrid

Published: 09 Jun 2022

Toyota has claimed pole position for the 2022 Le Mans 24hr race.

Though race officials deleted several times at the end of the first set of flying laps as a result of track infringements – and with Kamui Kobayashi in the sister Toyota favourite to claim the top spot – Hartley delivered a time of 3m 24.408s.

It means his Toyota GR010 Hybrid hypercar will start ahead of Kobayashi’s, who recorded a time of 3m 24.828s, narrowly beating the #36 Alpine A480 (3m 24.850) and a couple of seconds ahead of both Glickenhaus 007 hypercars (3m 26s).

The LMP2 field was four seconds down on the leaders, with the #31 Oreca 07-Gibson of WRT taking the class pole, while a pair of Corvette C8.Rs claimed both LMGTE Pro top spots (3m 51s). In LMGTE Am, a pair of Ferrari 488 GTE Evos were the ones to beat, the AF Corse car taking the top spot in its class.

So, Toyota, or… Toyota for the win?
