The Aston Martin Valkyrie will compete in both the WEC and IMSA in 2025

With testing almost concluded and the driver lineup confirmed, here’s how the Valkyrie’s first year in racing looks

Published: 27 Nov 2024

After what feels like an eternity of waiting, Aston Martin has confirmed its hardcore Valkyrie Le Mans Hypercar is almost ready for homologation following over 7,700 miles of testing. Sheesh, that might be more mileage than all the world’s customer Valkyries put together.

It’s set to debut at the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship’s curtain raiser on 28 February in Qatar. But that’s not all, just two weeks later the Valkyrie will head to Florida to contest the 12 Hours of Sebring, also marking its debut at the US-based IMSA SportsCar Championship.

In doing so, it will be the only Hypercar Class vehicle that’ll compete in both series simultaneously next year. Talk about piling the workload on the new guy at the office, right?

But the Valkyrie’s most anticipated event will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will be Aston’s first meaningful attempt to win the fabled race outright since 1959 when it did so with the DBR1.

There, and indeed on every other track, the Valkyrie and its 6.5-litre Cosworth-derived V12 are expected to put on a good show. Aston first announced this program nearly five years ago now, so the expectations will be… lofty, to say the least.

Donning the marque’s famous ‘007’ and ‘009’ racing numbers, it’ll compete against Ferrari’s double Le Mans-winning 499P and BMW’s M Hybrid V8, as well as prototypes from Alpine, Cadillac, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota. One name missing from that list is Lamborghini, which recently opted out of the 2025 WEC season to focus on IMSA.

Reckon the Valkyrie has what it takes?
