What do you think of these restomod V8 Range Rovers?
E.C.D. Automotive Design plugs Chevrolet engines into classic Rangies
Now, we don’t often like to tell you how to think, but you absolutely must love these restomodded Range Rovers from Florida-based company E.C.D. Automotive Design.
Just look at them. If all modern SUVs looked this good we wouldn’t mind that they were taking over the world.
E.C.D. was born in 2013 and started out by restomodding Defenders – fitting them with Chevrolet V8 engines. That was until 2017, when it branched out to perform similar surgery on classic Range Rovers.
Customers select their body style (both standard and long wheelbase cars have been built so far, although presumably you can have a two-door if you ask nicely) along with their preferred drivetrain, suspension setup, wheels, tyres, accessories and colours. Apparently each one is completely unique.
The four examples you see on this page are the only ones that have been built so far, with each one taking 2,200 hours of work to completely rebuild from the ground-up. There are three base specs – Pinnacle, Pursuit and Retro. As you might have guessed, Retro is the most historically accurate of the three, with the Rover V8 remaining alongside a four-speed auto gearbox and refinished wood trim.
Both Pursuit and Pinnacle specs get a 6.2-litre Chevrolet-sourced V8 with over 400bhp. Crikey. 0-60mph then takes just 5.9secs and said engine is connected to a six-speed auto gearbox and a whole host of modern tech options. Look! CarPlay! In Pinnacle spec you can even get carbon fibre trim bits (please don’t).
Our favourite of the lot has to be that Nardo Grey example with three-spoke alloys and Tom Walkinshaw Racing body kit. All-black interior too. What a thing.
The cost for all this cool? Well, if you have to ask…
