Porsche GT3 news - Fancy a 1000bhp Porsche GT3? - 2010
We should have guessed that the fruitcake Porsche tuners at 9ff were up to something.
The guys who brought us the 987bhp, 254mph GT9 and 850bhp, 240mph GT2 have been suspiciously quiet for a wee while, but now they're back... with a 1,000bhp GT3.
Yes, nothing says ‘we've missed you' like 1,000bhp of rear-engined, rear-drive Porsche. Though the GT3 might look more sedate than the almost-completely-bespoke GT9, we reckon that makes it all the madder.
Because what you're looking at is a near-stock 911 with only a handful of aero revisions to cope with the Veyron-rivalling power hoofing out through the rear tyres.
The massive horsepower boost has been achieved by bolting a pair of fat turbos to the GT3's 3.8-litre flat-six, which develops a pitiful 435bhp in production guise. 9ff says its GTurbo (for that is its name) will crack 62mph in 2.9 seconds and top out at 243mph, which is - there's no other way of putting this, really - Not Unfast.
Would you trust a new front and rear bumper and a nice new set of 19-inch alloys to keep all that terrible speed in check? No, us neither. Told you it was mad.
