Please buy this incredibly cool restored Merc G-Wagen
The Expedition Motor Company put over 1,000 hours into the restoration of this old G
While we can’t speak to the quality of the Expedition Motor Company’s work, its new/old 1990 Merc 250GD certainly looks the absolute business.
The New Jersey based outfit, which specialises in restoring and modifying ex-military Gs from the early Nineties, puts over 1,000 man-hours into each of its builds. It strips Gs down to their component parts, down to bare metal, then builds them back up using restored and upgraded components.
This one uses a bulletproof OM602 five-cylinder diesel engine and five-speed manual transmission. Its bodywork is finished in Rubellite Red, which is still available on some modern Mercs, and inside there are wipe-down brown vinyl seats with contrasting orange stitching. The dashboard looks period-correct, but incorporates modern A/C and a Bluetooth/USB-ready stereo.
These kinds of builds rarely come cheap. This particular G will cost its new owner, for it’s yet to find one, $102,150, or about £79,000. Which isn’t actually that bad if you think about it.
