This madly-modified Autozam Scrum is set to become a Hot Wheels toy
Bonkers kei-monster truck wins 2022 Hot Wheels Legends Tour
Not that long ago we brought you a look at the finalists of the UK leg of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour. The winner of that particular contest was ‘The Misfit’ – a wild 1963 Ford Anglia. It reached the ‘Global Grand Finale’ of the Legends Tour, but the overall title went to the 1992 Autozam Scrum kei truck that you can also see in the gallery above.
Well, we say kei truck – it’s now more of a monster truck thanks to owner and builder Craig Meaux of Beaumont, Texas. Nicknamed ‘Texas Toot’, the Scrum was a completely standard import from Japan in 2020.
It has now been treated to a five-foot hydraulic lift, a 7.4-litre big-block Chevrolet V8 engine (yeah, seriously), a nitrous kit, a three-speed GM auto gearbox, train horns and massive custom-welded wheels. Ridiculous. And quite brilliant.
“I wasn’t expecting to win, so this is a dream come true,” said Meaux. “I wanted to create something that no one else had. I didn’t have previous experience with this sort of fabrication, so it’s awesome that it came out the way it did and to have everybody enjoy the truck.”
As is the way with the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, the win means that Texas Toot will be immortalised as a 1:64 Hot Wheels toy and sold around the world.
As for the real thing, Meaux apparently intends to use it in burnout competitions. Just brilliant.
