The Hennessey Mammoth 1000 is a 1,012bhp Ram pickup

The standard Ram 1500 TRX is not a sane thing. It’s a 2.9-tonne pickup truck with 35-inch tyres and a 702bhp 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8 for crying out loud. Naturally, we absolutely love it.

So does Mr John Hennessey down in Texas, it seems. So much so, in fact, that when he first got his hands on one last September, he immediately stuck a 1,200bhp 7.0-litre Hellephant engine under the bonnet and added another rear axle.

Just three of the resulting Mammoth 6x6s will ever exist, though, and each will cost upwards of $500,000. So, Hennessey decided that a more sensible tuning package was needed for the TRX – welcome world, to the Mammoth 1000.

The Hellcat engine remains this time, but Hennessey has fitted an upgraded supercharger, stainless-steel headers and a high-flow exhaust for a total of 1,012bhp and 969lb ft of torque. Not that sensible, then.

The Mammoth will now do 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, because we all need a pickup that accelerates as quickly as a McLaren F1…

The standard eight-speed automatic gearbox is also still in place, and there’s even been a 2.5-inch lift to the suspension. The whole package, including the donor vehicle, will cost $135,350 and Hennessey will also fit a custom front bumper, 20-inch wheels, off-road tyres, a front suspension levelling kit and electronic fold-out steps. They’ll come in handy.
