Eek! The new Brabus AMG GT 63 ‘1,000’ is quicker to 62mph than a McLaren W1

Brabus decides the big, bad Merc AMG GT needs to be bigger and badder. Yikes

Brabus has announced an even lairier spin on the catchily-titled Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance with this new ‘1000’ version. As you can probably guess, that means its twin-turbo hybrid V8 produces exactly… 986bhp. That's 1,000PS, of course.

An equally impressive 1,195lb ft of torque is the other headline figure, and allows Brabus’ take on the 2+2, four-wheel drive super coupe to get from 0-62mph in 2.6s. Off the line, that makes it faster than the new McLaren W1 hypercar. Keep your foot planted for another 21s and you’ll see 186mph before bouncing off the 198mph limiter.

Generous amounts of carbon fibre have been used across the exterior for even more drama: namely on the front splitter, nostrils and wheel arches, as well as the mirror covers and rear diffuser. Finishing touches include a 76mm stainless steel quad-exhaust, 21/22in 10-spoke forged alloys, plus a neat rear wing.

Menacing colour palette too, no? The gloss black look is accentuated by red brake calipers, and the AMG GT's body is now perched 20mm lower to the ground thanks to a set of height-adjustable sports springs.

It’s a similar theme inside, where the gorgeously quilted leather upholstery gets flying saucer-like patternation. The centre console is teemed with more carbon, while Brabus logos adorn the headrests and steering wheel. The red used here looks even shinier than that outside, and really makes the cabin pop.

Pricing is under wraps for now and will likely fluctuate a fair bit depending on the finishes, but do consider the less-powerful Brabus ‘750’ already starts at an eye-watering £262k.
