The Corvette AeroWagen is finally here

Callaway to sell shooting brake conversion for C7 ‘Vette

Published: 07 Apr 2016

Callaway is maybe best known for super- and turbocharging the living daylights out of Corvettes, Camaros and, erm, Silverados. Last year it gave us a 757bhp Corvette Z06, which is fine, but we’re more excited by its latest project – the AeroWagen.

Basically, it’s a shooting brake ‘Vette, based on the AeroWagen Concept of a few years ago. For an unspecified sum (thought to be around $15,000), Callaway will remove your Corvette’s tailgate, and throw it away. In its place it then fits a one-piece carbon fibre structure, thus lengthening the Corvette’s roofline and expanding luggage space. The whole things lifts up like a big tailgate and, because it uses the factory seals, hinges and latches, the ‘Vette’s targa top remains fully functional. No extra seats though,

Any hard-top ‘Vette can be converted (yes, even the Z06), whether it has one of Callaway’s performance kits or not, and installation is fully reversible. Installations start later this year, and orders are being taken right now.

A regular Corvette Z06 is a little under $80K, the SC757 power kit $18K and the AeroWagen tailgate another $15K. That’s $113K all in, for a 757bhp Corvette shooting brake. About £80K in old money. Is it just us, or does that look like quite good value?
