Check out this rat rod trophy truck

Watch a rusty old pick-up drift and jump its way around a forest

Published: 13 May 2016

Trophy trucks are awesome. With their endless suspension travel, knobbly tyres and ability to look at pretty much any landscape on earth and say, ‘yeah, I’ll have that’, you can’t help but love them.

Rat rods are equally awesome. It’s a school of design that pays homage to the American hot rods of the Forties, Fifties and Sixties, that favours unfinished, bare-boned, rusty aesthetics. More often than not, they’re also stuffed with a full-fat V8.

Now, when you put two in a blender you get the above. A rat rod trophy truck. Or trophy rat if you’re a fan of portmanteau. Basically, double awesome.

It’s a derelict 1937 International pick-up body plonked on a bespoke spaceframe chassis, with 2.5-inch King coilover shocks with 14-inches of vertical travel at each corner and a hefty 5.7-litre LS6 V8 engine up front.

Capable of big drifts and headbutting anything that gets in its way, it doesn’t half look fun to drive. Now, who thinks it should compete in next year’s NORRA Mexico 1000? It’d fit in perfectly with the Mad Max crowd, don’t you think?
