Check out ABT’s 379bhp modified Mk8 Golf R

A new ECU is just the first of many Golf R parts that ABT will offer. Excited?

Published: 02 Jul 2021

Picked up your brand-spanking-new Mk8 Golf R but a little disappointed with the 316bhp, 310lb ft of torque and the 4.7-second 0-62mph time? Well, that last one is probably undersold anyway, given that we timed an old Golf R DSG at 4.5secs.

Still, if you feel the need to go even quicker, ABT is here to save the day. Its new ABT Engine Control unit can now be adapted for any of the quick Golfs (even the GTD you see below), and in the top-spec R that means 379bhp and 325lb ft of torque. Certainly not an insignificant boost.

ABT says that it’ll soon offer even sportier suspension and a custom-built exhaust system for the Mk8 R, which also gets the option of new 19- or 20-inch wheels. Rather neat little graphic on the rear three-quarter panel too, isn’t it?

With a similar control module fitted to the GTD, its power increases from 197bhp and 295lb ft of torque to 227bhp and 325lb ft.

Thoughts, Internet?
