BMW gives M3 and M4 a makeover at SEMA
Fast BMWs get louder exhaust, tauter suspension and massive wing at Vegas mod show
BMW has used the SEMA show in Las Vegas to unveil some performance parts for the M3 and M4.
And they’re perfect if you wish for your medium-sized M Division saloon (or coupe) to shout a little louder than normal.
There’s the white and M tricolour paint scheme, for starters. On top of that, there are some decidedly unsubtle carbon additions. At the front, a sculptured spoiler juts out, while atop the bootlid there’s a fairly notable fixed rear spoiler. Together, they improve the aerodynamics (no actual stats have yet been given), though we suspect most people ticking the box might be doing so for aesthetic reasons.
The alloy wheels, meanwhile, are a new ‘M Performance’ design. They measure 19 inches at the front and20 at the rear, are lighter than standard and come wearing some fairly serious Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Inside, once you’ve got over the shock of the manual gearstick protruding from the transmission tunnel of this display car, you’ll see a snazzy new steering wheel. It’s only part Alcantara, but the suede is in the correct places – the quarter-to-three position you ought to be holding the wheel in – while there’s a motorsport-style centre marker and some tricolor stitching.
There’s plenty beneath the skin you can spec on your M3 or M4, too: a titanium exhaust system, if you want to simultaneously shave some more weight and annoy your neighbours on a morning, and some adjustable coilover suspension, which can drop the car up to 20mm over standard.
With the ace Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Mercedes C63 AMG set to be joined by a brand new Audi RS4 in the M3’s pool of rivals, it’s the perfect time to offer some sharpening for existing customers. No word just yet on how much all these new bits will cost, mind…
