The Alpha Wolf+ now comes with a wicked tent attached
Is this the ultimate pickup truck/camping setup of the future?
We know what it looks like, but no, Greta Thunberg hasn’t reversed her all-electric adventure pickup into Spiderman’s weekend away with Bear Grylls. This is actually a proper collaboration between two of the coolest outdoor brands around right now.
You’ll know from these pages that Californian startup Alpha is planning to make gloriously retro 4WD trucks and other off-road EVs, but now it has teamed up with German tent makers Heimplanet to produce the brilliantly-named Wolf+ Cloudbreak.
Heimplanet’s unique tents use giant inflatable grids instead of the traditionally flimsy tent poles, meaning something like the Cloudbreak can be erected on the back of your pickup in less than a minute and is super strong in extreme weather.
The Wolf+ is an evolution of the standard (and also not yet real) Alpha Wolf. The Plus gets room for four on the inside – with brilliant suicide doors - and apparently places an even greater focus on utility. The standard Wolf will be available with all- or front-wheel drive, whereas the Plus gets either all- or rear-wheel drive. The battery pack will be a similar 75-85kWh unit and range is estimated at 275 miles.
Get this, though – the standard Wolf will tow 1,360kg when it hits the road in 2023, but the Wolf+ will apparently lug a 3,050kg trailer. Very impressive.
Oh, and as part of the kit, the Wolf+ now gets an extendable cargo bed that can become your actual bed when you want to pitch the tent. If there was ever a way to make camping cool, this is surely it…
