ABT's Cupra Formentor has 365bhp
Upgraded SUV does 0-62mph in a brisk 4.6 seconds
The rumour mill thinks Cupra is doing a hotter Formentor, thanks to numerous sightings of a camouflaged prototype that sounds an awful lot like it’s packing the turbocharged inline-five from the Audi RS3 et al.
So if you want a more powerful Formentor than the existing 306bhp flagship, you have a choice. Either put your plans on hold and cross your fingers the five-pot car eventually becomes a production reality, or get an existing Formentor and give ABT a ring.
The German tuner has just announced a new ‘Power’ ECU that takes the SUV’s familiar VW Group 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor from 306bhp and 295lb ft to 365bhp and 332lb ft. It cuts the 0-62mph time from 4.9 to 4.6 seconds, which ABT points out isn’t a million miles off a Porsche Boxster GTS with the manual ‘box.
ABT will also sell you a new exhaust with fat matte-black tips and new springs that drop the ride height by 35mm. The range of wheels on offer includes these 20-inchers plus a couple of other 20 and 19-inch options.
