Mini news - Millionth Mini marches out
The one millionth new Mini has just rolled off the Oxford production line.
Predictably BMW is chuffed about the success of its 'premium small car', which has been produced in the UK since 2001 and spawned a host of retro reinterpretations of varying plausibility.
The millionth Mini was, for those of you taking notes, a Cooper S in Pepper White with a special 'million' graphic on the bonnet. The customer? BMW's heritage division. Seems like cheating to us... couldn't they find a paying punter?
The new Mini has still got some way to go to catch the original, which recorded sales of 5.3 million cars between 1959 and 2000. Which in itself isn't a patch on the Toyota Corolla, which has shifted over 35 million units since 1966.
