Mazda Hakaze news - Three radical - 2007

Published: 06 Feb 2007

Mazda can't help turning out more and more concepts for every possible motor show, and the Hakaze is the latest show car to come out of the firm's design centre.

Billed as a 'compact crossover coupe', the Hakaze is another strong hint at the direction Mazda's future styling will take.

Look at the bold front grille that echoes the shape of the Mazda badge and you have a good idea how the front end of the next Mazda3 will look.

The Hakaze has pillarless side windows and its doors hinge upwards, but we doubt this will make it on to a production car somehow.

There are four individual seats inside, while under the bonnet is Mazda's turbocharged 2.3-litre engine driving through a six-speed automatic 'box, and all of this rides on some hefty 20in alloy wheels.

The Hakaze follows hot on the heels of Mazda's Nagare concept and the Ryuga, which both had similar voluptuous features and futuristic looks.

It will make its debut in Geneva in a matter of a few weeks, before we see the final product - a coupe/SUV crossover - at a motor show next year.
