Antonio Banderas will play Lamborghini in a new movie

A new film covering the life and times of Ferruccio Lamborghini has been announced. It's currently titled Lamborghini - The Legend, with Antonio Banderas playing the charismatic Italian who famously went up against Ferrari in the 1960s. 

Alec Baldwin will play the part of Ferruccio's great rival Enzo Ferrari, and the script will work from a book written by Lamborghini's son Tonino. We're told it'll cover Ferruccio's life from his days of manufacturing tractors, building military vehicles and of course, building a line of supercars that started with the wonderful Miura.

"My book Ferruccio Lamborghini, La storia ufficiale (The official story) is the only text perfectly respectful of the real life of my father," Tonino explains, "despite numerous legends and anecdotes written or told by other people looking for a moment of celebrity.

"I really believe this film can translate into images and words the great humanity of Ferruccio and transmit to the viewers worldwide my father’s personality: a man full of energy, charisma and passion," he added.

Shooting for the film kicks off this summer in Italy (duh), with Baldwin scheduled to shoot for about a week. It'll be directed by Oscar-nominee Michael Radford, and written by Oscar-winner Bobby Moresco.

We're also told that the film won't just be a toe-to-toe battle with Enzo, but will also feature - drumroll please - a love story. "[Ferruccio's] love of women, celebrity lifestyle, and the business of carmaking made for prodigious drama in Lamborghini's life," goes the press release, "and will be just as much a part of the movie as the cars themselves." 

We're just hoping that it'll capture some of the magic from the opening scene of The Italian Job; a Miura, a mountain pass, classic music and V12 noise. In fact, if the whole film is just Banderas hooning about in a Miura looking cool (minus the unfortunate ending for the Miura), we're sold...
