Ten things we learned this week

  1. Honda loves hydrogen

When James drove the Honda FCX Clarity back in series 12, he thought it was the most important car for 100 years. That's because it runs on hydrogen, which is the most abundant substance in the universe, and only emits water.

Which, plainly, is good. So he'll be pleased to learn that Honda just signed a £31m agreement to develop the tech and infrastructure for fuel cell EVs to be viable in Europe.

    Keep at it, Asimo.

  2. Handbrakes are difficult to operate if you work for FedEx

  3. It's really hard to stop a 1,000mph car

Fighter jets. You'd think they're built from hardy stuff. But the fiendishly clever people building Bloodhound, the 1000mph land speed record hopeful, found that their brakes are, in fact, rubbish.

Well, rubbish at stopping the Bloodhound. The car's builders experimented with carbonfibre brake discs from military aircraft, but found them... breaky. In their defence, they've got a tough job - the material needs to pull up six tonnes of rocket-fired bullet while rotating at 10,000rpm, and heating up to 850 degrees centigrade.

Think that's challenging? You should see what the wheels have to deal with...

  4. Michael Schumacher is showing "moments of consciousness"

Michael Schumacher's agent announced that he was "making progress", and showing "moments of consciousness" after months in a coma.

Doctors in France have been working to bring the seven-time F1 champ out of a medically induced coma after the 45-year-old hotshoe suffered a severe head injury while skiing on December 29.

Get well soon, Schuey. We're rooting for you.

  5. Caterham's launching in Columbia. Wait, what?

It turns out that Caterham's got itself a dealer in Columbia, and it'll sell the full range of Sevens - the new Seven 165, Roadsport, Superlight, Seven 485, Seven 620 R and CSR 175.

And there was us thinking it was all wheelieing Jeeps and Lambo LM002s over there...

  6. We're all a massive bunch of liars

An HPI survey's shown that a quarter of used car owners (28 per cent) lie about the condition of their car when they come to sell it.

The worst offenders? Those pesky kids... One in three 18-25 year olds (33 per cent) admitted to blatantly fibbery to secure a quick sale - 11 per cent would physically hide minor problems, and 9 per cent were actually prepared to turn back the odometer to get a better price.

So, basically, never EVER buy an old car. Especially not from a young person.

  7. The Rallycross Championships will start at Top Gear Live in Barbados

The season opener for this year's Global Rallycross Championship's being held in Barbados. On the same day, at the same time, and in the exactly the same place as the inaugural Top Gear Festival in Barbados.

And Top Gear USA host and XGames champ, Tanner Foust, will be competing. In this insane 650bhp Beetle...

  8. Many things about the McLaren P13

Using nothing but our charm, and three packs of those new caramel digestives, we managed to coax some exclusive information out of McLaren on its upcominfg P13 model. And we learned a lot.

It's due in 2015, will cost around £125,000, have an alloy skin, and under 500bhp...

  9. This is the best car club in the entire world

Over the weekend, we snuck under the velvet rope to score some pictures from the incredible Goodwood Road Racing Club's 72nd annual meeting.

And we found many things. Mainly things we'd like to drive. Like an Italiya Sports Porsche 962 prototype. And Ayrton Senna's Lotus 98T F1 car. And an MG Metro 6R4. And a turbocharged McLaren MP4/2 F1 car. And an Audi Quattro S1. And a Lotus Elite. And a Renault Alpine A442. And, and, and...

Yeah, there was a lot of really good stuff. Click here to see our pics.

  10. Forza hearts LaFerrari

The Ferrari ‘The Ferrari' has an admirer. And its name is Forza.

To show its breathless love for Modena's hybrid hyperthing, the game's creators have made this little - and actually pretty decent - video tribute of the car melting electronic tyres.

Which is all very nice, but what about US, Forza? I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING
