Small, cross: it’s the Mazda CX-3
Midway through next year, Mazda will let slip yet another entrant into the burgeoning small crossover SUV bit of the car world. Internet, meet the new CX-3.
It becomes the fifth ‘new-generation' Mazda model to feature the company's Skyactiv tech and 'Kodo' design language, and will come packing either a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two power outputs, or the new 1.5-litre ‘clean' diesel.
The CX-3 will offer, naturally, all-wheel-drive, but if your needs aren't so severe, there will be a front-wheel-drive version, together with a six-speed auto ‘box or a six-speed manual.
There is much safety, too: Mazda promises lashings of active and passive tech, in part thanks to the CX-3's stiff, lightweight body structure. And no self-respecting urban crossover would be complete with the ability to connect your smartphone - step forward the MZD Connect system.
What do you reckon? To TG's eyes, it's not a bad looking little SUV, and Mazda generally does a tidy job in the handling department. Oh, and alongside the Los Angeles Motor Show debut of this new CX-3 will sit the brand new MX-5. We really can't wait to have a go in that...
