This Range Rover costs as much as a Rolls Royce

Almost, anyway. LWB Rangie SVAutobiography gets much leather, wood and legroom

Published: 28 Nov 2017

Land Rover has used the ordinary Range Rover’s facelift to add even more leather, wood and knurling to its flagship – the SVAutobiography.

This is not a Range Rover you drive, but a Range Rover you’re driven in, hence the fact you can only get it with the long wheelbase, and the rear seats that offer a massive 1.2-metres of legroom, recline through 40 degrees and have a hot stone massaging function. The rear doors are powered (like a Rolls Royce’s) and there are tables that deploy electronically from the extended centre console, which also houses a special Zenith clock and a fridge large enough to hold two bottles of wine. Naturally there are screens – two ten inchers – giving much wirelessness.

These things are hand-finished in SVO’s workshop, which almost makes up for the £167,850 asking price. That’s more than double a basic Range Rover, and a hell of a lot more than you’d pay for well-specified versions of the Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series. A Rolls Royce Ghost starts at £186,140, which should give you some idea of where Land Rover’s pitching this thing. Regular long-wheelbase Rangies start at £112,900.

You can have a hybrid or a diesel, but the one you want is the 565bhp supercharged V8. Because if you’re spending £170k upwards on a Range Rover, you’re not interested in saving money. Or the planet, we’d wager.
