This is the five-door Fiesta ST Concept...

Published: 03 Nov 2011

Ford has revealed a five-door version of its Fiesta ST Concept for Americans. If you think this looks familiar, that's because it largely is. The three-door Euro-spec ST - which we liked very much - was unveiled in September at the Frankfurt motor show.

Number of doors aside, the salient details remain familiar: the red firecracker ST Concept sports a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 180bhp and 177lb ft of torque, thanks to the same twin independent variable camshaft timing as seen in the new Focus ST.

That means the new downsized engine is more powerful than its last gen 2.0-litre predecessor, with a six-speed manual driving, naturally, the front wheels. Performance times remain in the theoretical world of concepts, but we'd expect a 0-62mph time of under seven seconds. Probably.

The shouty little tyke also comes with a Focus ST-inspired front grille, a rear diffuser incorporating a twin-exit exhaust, tuned suspension that lowers the car, 17in alloy wheels and the full ST body kit. You'll have to option your own baseball cap, should you so wish.

And that suspension setup is designed to "flatter less experienced drivers", as well as giving less rubbish tarmac pilots a bit of fizz.

It'll go on display at the Los Angeles motor show later this month. What do we think, EuroTopGear.commers? Do we long for a five-door version as well?
