The Koenigsegg One:1 will return to the ‘Ring
With speed restrictions now lifted, prep for 1,340bhp One:1 lap record starts again
Koenigsegg will return to the Nürburgring in 2016 with its 1,340bhp One:1 hypercar.
Temper your excitement, though, because they’re not planning on laying down a new lap record in the immediate future.
Some context, then. Last year, the company wanted to blaze a path around the ‘Ring to showcase just how sticky, fast and excellent its One:1 ‘megacar’ was.
It of course boasts huge power from its twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V8, will go from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and top out at a theoretical 273mph. On top of that, it also comes with 600kg of downforce from that Le Mans-inspired rear wing, and a cornering force of 2G.
Speaking to TopGear.com a while back, Christian von Koenigsegg said: “During our testing [at the Nürburgring], which so far has been for data collection and setup, we can already see the potential when comparing official data and videos from other manufacturers."
That of course, was before the Nürburgring introduced speed limits on certain sections of the track, putting the attempt on hold.
Those limits have now been lifted, which means Koenigsegg will return. “We maintain our desire to show what our cars can do on the ultimate automotive proving ground,” the company said in a statement.
“We won’t be doing a lap record in the immediate term, but we will be there and because people will see us there and expect all sorts of things, we thought we’d get out ahead of the car-spotters and tell you what we’re up to.”
So, what are they up to? Well, first and foremost, allowing factory test driver Robert Serwanski to get “intimate” knowledge of both the car’s setup, and of course, the terrifying 14-odd miles of track.
Though it probably won’t be Serwanski who’ll attempt the record, Koenigsegg stressed it was important for him to build up a picture of where and how to push all of those horses for a new record.

“Will we gun for a record this year? Maybe,” explains Koenigsegg. “So yes, you may see photos of us at the Nürburgring later this month. Don’t get too excited, however.
“This is a long road we’re on, and it ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”
We’ll keep you updated on this record as and when we hear more. In the meantime, let us know if you think the One:1 has the capability to become the fastest production car around the ‘Ring...
