Jaguar F-Type: old face or new?

Jag updates pretty, two-seat coupe. But which one wears it best?

Published: 04 Dec 2019

In the red corner, the original Jaguar F-Type; wide-eyed, a cat-like ‘fang’ bookending the front bumper, marginally feral appearance. Spot on.

And now, in the blue corner, the new Jaguar F-Type; lower, narrower lights and a lower, longer-reaching bonnet. Who wins?

While you deliberate, some finer details about that visual update. Jaguar tells us the LED headlights are now super-slim items that sit in the “liquid metal” surfacing of the new bonnet. Jaguar hasn’t explicitly ruled out whether this new F has been sent from the future to hunt down resistance leaders, so best not to dwell on that.

The grille? It’s fractionally bigger than before, while you’ll notice quite quickly the bumper looks different as well. Overall it’s supposed to be more “assertive”. Not so much "No no, after you" as "Ahem, outtamyway."

What won’t be planted underneath that narrow-eyed aggression is Jag’s V6 – the sweet spot of the old F-Type range. You’ll get the choice of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine (296bhp) or the big 5.0-litre V8 in supercharged 446bhp or 570bhp guise. Rear- and all-wheel-drive are available, but a manual gearbox isn’t. The rest of the debrief you can read here.

Had some time to mull it over? Let us know which F-Type wore it best, below.
