It’s a BMW bobsled!

Published: 21 Jan 2013

You may have noticed it's been snowing a bit in the UK? No? Well look out the window, and if it has, update your Facebook, Instagram a pic that makes the snow look like it's from the olden days, then tweet the world that you've done these two things... and that it's snowing.

But if you really want to make the most of the weather, you need to go sledging. And the fight for motoring manufacturer dominance in the gravity-powered, low-friction sled market is at an all-time high.

In December, Audi showcased what we named internally as the A-RS3 Brüiser, a £34.99 piece of plastic. But in this ongoing Germanic tustle, BMW has now stepped up to take the fight to Audi with this, rather more serious machine.

This isn't your normal tea tray. With carbon fibre construction, optimised aerodynamics and low centre of gravity, it's quite a bit of kit. The gravity-powered two-seat roadster is, in fact, the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation sled of choice. They're taking it to next year's Sochi Winter Olympics, and believe it could take them to gold (something the US haven't done in the Winter Games since 1936).

But the question is, will it be quicker than the Audi A-RS3 Brüiser down the local park?
