This is the new face of Vauxhall

Vauxhall is readying a concept that it promises will “redefine” its brand

Published: 11 Jul 2018

What with all the uncertainties surrounding Brexit and the PSA buyout, it’s been… interesting times for Vauxhall. But that hasn’t stopped it from looking ahead to 2020 and beyond with a concept that “provide[s] a template for the future design of its production cars”.

Set to be revealed before the end of this year, the company says the so-far unnamed concept will likely borrow design principles from 2016’s rather lovely GT Concept. Vauxhall’s VP of design Mark Adams says a new ‘compass’ theme will be central to the car’s front-end. ”It presents a confident identity, by putting the Griffin emblem in focus by the centre-crease line,” he says. “This line is an integral part of all our designs, along with the daytime running light signature that we will further emphasise on future vehicles.”

We’re told this new design language will differentiate Vauxhall from other brands by emphasising what it says are its core values – ingenuity, progressiveness and approachability. Adams says design will be “at the heart of everything [Vauxhall] does in future” and that the concept will pay particular attention to the brand’s Britishness. “Design inspiration is all around us in the UK – from the bold ingenuity of James Dyson to the pure designs of Jonathan Ive – and this concept will embody that,” he says. Quite how that fits in with Vauxhall's very un-British European arm, Opel, we're not sure...

Looking forward to seeing the fruits of his labours?
