Suzuki is killing off the Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis and Swace
ICE cars discontinued by next year to make way for full electric cars
The Suzuki Swift Sport is dead. Well, nearly. Ditto the Jimny – the commercial one you can still buy. Almost. Same goes for the Ignis. And the Swace – the one you probably couldn’t identify in a line-up.
In a recent announcement, Suzuki UK said it was discontinuing those four cars by early 2025 or even sooner if stocks run out at dealerships. Why? To make way for shiny new electric Suzukis. And the first of these electric Suzukis will be revealed in late 2025.
How do we know this? Suzuki said so.
“Suzuki will introduce its first fully electric car later next year followed by further EV models in the range through to 2030,” it said. “By early 2025, or sooner if dealer stock depletes, Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis and Swace will be discontinued from the model range.”
The regular, non-commercial Jimny was discontinued a long time ago of course, but even so, the removal of this ‘light commercial vehicle’ still stings. Ditto the Swift Sport – not as Scrappy Doo as previous iterations, but it was still a small, punchy and fun-to-drive junior hot hatch.
“The departure of these models will make room for EV and enable us to compete during a period where our sales ratio of hybrid versus EV products will drive our business,” said Dale Wyatt, Suzuki UK boss.
“We’re exiting the ICE era with a focus on SUVs and new Swift, and then starting in the second half of 2025 we’ll begin a period of EV growth.”
In the interim, Suzuki will streamline its UK line-up to hybrid versions of the Swift, Vitara, S-Cross and Across.
