Porsche has confirmed the 911 hybrid is coming this summer

2024: the year when the world’s first private spacecraft landed on the moon, Kevin James became a meme and the Porsche 911 went hybrid. Yes, you read that right. Porsche has confirmed its perennial sports car will go part-electric this year and spearhead a quartet of new releases in the process. Traditionalists, look away now.

Hybridising the 992 was always a part of the plan, since it was deliberately constructed with more empty pockets of space over the 991 to store batteries. Its eight-speed gearbox is also purpose-built to be compatible with an e-motor, which should also mean a substantial torque increase.

The current model is offered with three flat-six powertrain displacements - 3.0, 3.7 and 4.0-litre - and of course Porsche has form in rolling out a range of hybrid drivetrains even as far up as stuff like the 729bhp Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. So it'll be interesting to see what sort of shapes the hybrid 911 takes. Fast shapes, no doubt.

Elsewhere, the Taycan's replacement will also land this spring with improved range and performance. Porsche certainly did itself some favours ahead of the revamp, with its most powerful production car ever, the Taycan GT, smashing a series of circuit records over the last few weeks. 

The final two products scheduled for this year are the second-generation Macan and the third-generation Panamera. The Macan EV has been teased for some time now, and will also continue to be offered in its traditional guise. The same will apply for the Panamera, and given the glow-up of the outgoing model, we expect this new one to lose even more of the traits which made the original car look so… eurgh.
